About the Role
Are you a motivated and adaptable Registered Nurse looking for an opportunity to be part of a supportive and improving team? We are seeking someone to join Ward 7 at Borders General Hospital, an acute surgical ward with 31 beds. This role covers General Surgery, Gynaecology, and Urology, and offers a unique chance to work within a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
In this position, you will:
- Take a lead in assessing patients' needs and coordinating care within a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.
- Work closely with health professionals, patients, and families, particularly in supporting complex discharges.
- Supervise registered staff, unregistered staff, and student nurses while demonstrating confidence in independent decision-making.
- Collaborate with senior charge nurse, Lorna Wilson, to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care aligned with a continuously improving ethos.
- Assess patients' needs, conduct holistic assessments, and plan/deliver responsible care.
- Coordinate complex patient discharges, ensuring smooth and effective transitions.
- Support, administer to, and supervise other healthcare professionals (including unregistered staff and students).
- Operate autonomously as required without direct supervision.
- Uphold integrity and practice excellence in all areas.

Key Requirements
- Full UK NMC registration.
- Ability to work days and nights with flexibility to support an on-call system.
- Confident and experienced in autonomous decision-making.
- Capacity to supervise and mentor other healthcare staff, including students. -Strong communication skills for working across multidisciplinary teams and with families.
- Passionate about person-centred patient care.
