Role Overview

The postholder will be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care.

Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and undertake delegated tasks from the ward sister/charge nurse.

Following successful completion of foundation gateway will be required to take charge of ward/department for a span of duty.

The postholder will always work within the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct.

Main Duties of the Registered Nurse – Medical Elderly Ward

As a Registered Nurse on our Medical Elderly Ward, you will provide high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centred care to older adults with a range of acute and chronic medical conditions.

  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualised care for elderly patients.
  • Delivering safe and effective nursing care while promoting dignity, independence, and wellbeing.
  • Administering medications and treatments in accordance with Trust policies and professional standards.
  • Monitoring patients' physical and mental health, recognising deterioration, and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Supporting patients living with frailty, dementia, delirium, and complex medical needs.

Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and support discharge planning.

  • Communicating effectively with patients, relatives, and carers, providing information and emotional support.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation and electronic patient records.
  • Promoting patient safety, infection prevention, safeguarding, and falls prevention measures.
  • Supervising and supporting healthcare assistants, student nurses, and newly qualified staff.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and ongoing professional development.
