About the Role
Are you an experienced Staff Physical Design Engineer looking for your next challenge? Aion Silicon is actively building a pipeline of talented engineers for exciting opportunities.
Our design centres span global locations: across the UK, Spain, Hyderabad, and Morocco. This role offers flexibility to base yourself at any of these locations.

Purpose of Role
The Staff Physical Design Engineer will:
- Work within a Physical implementation design team, contributing to block development and potentially full-chip responsibility (from RTL to GDS).
- Take full ownership of assigned tasks, ensuring diligence and quality.
- Provide line management for junior teams of 2–3 engineers, mentoring and overseeing their day-to-day work.
Responsibilities
The role demands minimal supervision, with a focus on independent contribution, problem-solving, and high-quality execution:
- Contribute to physical design projects with autonomy, tackling moderate-complexity challenges and applying analytical judgment.
- Maintain rigorous quality standards in all work produced.
- Handle multi-assignment tasks concurrently, balancing demands across different customers/teams.
- Collaborate with senior team members to resolve technical issues.
- Demonstrate expertise in one-two tools, or+efficient proficiency in multiple—key tools include:
- Synthesis, Place & Route (PnR)
- Formal verification, custom layout engineering
- Analog simulation, chip finishing.
- Supporting technical white papers and broader design documentation.
- Occasional contributions to sales support (e.g., Statement of Work).
- Manage personal productivity with accurate time tracking.
- Exhibit self-discipline and independent task execution.

Additionally, candidates will lead small teams of 2–3 engineers or effectively mentor junior colleagues.
Qualifications & Experience
Broad eligibility for applicants with:
- A degree, master’s, or PhD in relevant engineering or physics disciplines.
Experience Requirements:
- 5+ years in senior physical design.
- Proven tapeout experience across multiple technologies: 3nm, 5nm, 7nm, 12nm, 16nm, 22nm, 28nm.
- Deep familiarity with DRC, LVS, ANTENNA, and ERC physical verification checks.
Core Technical Skills
- Skilled in Synthesis, Floorplanning, Placement, CTS (Clock Tree Synthesis), Routing, STA (Static Timing Analysis).
- Competency in PnR using: Synopsys ICC, Cadence EDI, or Mentor Olympus PnR.
- Synthesis expertise in: Synopsys DC or Cadence Genus/RC.
- Experience with Formality Formalpro or Mentor Calibre/IC Validator for download and mahtods verification.
- Self-motivated problem solver, capable of independent or team-based collaboration.
- Excellent communication, with the ability to evaluate complex issues and drive solutions.
- Proactive approach to expanding cross-disciplinary expertise by embracing new assignments.
