Staff Engineer / Circa £85,000 / Remote first
As a Staff Engineer, you'll provide leadership across the value stream, driving technical strategy, guiding architectural decisions and influencing engineering outcomes across multiple teams. You'll act as a trusted technical authority, working closely with Principal Engineers, Architects, Product and Delivery leaders to align engineering delivery with broader business and technology objectives.
You'll balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical contribution, leading solution design, validating architectural approaches, tackling complex technical challenges and supporting teams through key delivery initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering squads, driving consistency and engineering excellence.
- Influence technical strategy, architecture and technology roadmaps.
- Partner with senior stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Architecture, Delivery and Capability functions.
- Lead the design of scalable, secure and cloud-native solutions.
- Act as the technical escalation point for complex engineering challenges and major initiatives.
- Drive best practices across software development, CI/CD, testing, automation and platform reliability.
- Identify risks, challenge existing approaches and improve engineering processes across the wider platform.
- Mentor and coach engineers, helping raise technical capability across the organization.
- Build alignment across teams, influencing decisions without direct authority.

About You
We're looking for someone who is more than just a strong engineer. You'll be a recognised technical leader with the ability to influence, challenge and drive change across a complex technology landscape. You will bring:

- Experience operating as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer or Senior Technical Lead within a complex environment.
- A proven track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple teams or squads.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence engineers, architects and business stakeholders alike.
- The ability to operate comfortably at both strategic and hands-on levels.
- Deep expertise in React and modern web application development.
- Experience driving technical decision-making, navigating ambiguity and delivering outcomes through influence rather than authority.
- A passion for mentoring engineers and elevating engineering standards.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to identify problems, create solutions and drive them through to completion.
