Staff Software Engineer – Privacy & Data Security

Location: London, Remote (EMEA-based with some UK/EU office attendance)


About the Role

Our Staff Software Engineers drive strategic technical initiatives, deliver high-value solutions for customers and the business, and embed engineering excellence. As an early hire on our growing Privacy & Data Security team in London, you’ll shape our engineering presence in Europe. Collaborating closely with Product Management, Product Design, and fellow engineers, you’ll lead privacy-focused product development, ensuring robust, scalable, and seamless experiences for all our customers.

Given our rapid growth, you’ll identify critical scalable systems to support both our technical foundation and future expansion. You’ll set high standards for engineering culture, leveraging your expertise to accelerate Vanta’s success—while helping engineers thrive in collaborative environments.

Vanta has proven product-market fit and rapid growth. As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll not only contribute to cutting-edge products but also shape our engineering culture, ensuring our team—and the company—can scale effectively.


What You’ll Do

  • Drive technical vision: Identify, scope, and lead large-scale technical projects, establishing scalable, performant, and reliable systems for core products
  • Build foundational solutions: Design and own privacy-centric features or infrastructure, leveraging modern tooling (TypeScript, React, Node.js)
  • Balanced decision-making: Leverage your expertise to make informed trade-offs between business priorities, user needs, and long-term technical health
  • Collaborate on growth: Partner with privacy-focused teams, product leaders, and global staff engineers to expand Vanta’s global capabilities.
  • Grow the team: Assist in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring UK/Ireland-based engineers to up-level our collective expertise
  • Champion culture: Set an example for effective, collaborative engineering, fostering mentorship for junior colleagues

What You’ll Bring

To thrive in this role, you’ll have:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, demonstrating strategic impact in complex, end-to-end systems
  • Proven track record as a technical lead: Managed multi-month projects with clear architectural goals across diverse functions (e.g., privacy, security, SaaS delivery)
  • SaaS expertise: Built products for both small businesses and enterprises, ensuring ease of use, scalability, and reliability
  • Startup experience: Thrived in fast-paced environments where rapid iterations and agility drive innovation
  • Team leadership: Depth to mentor colleagues, foster collaboration, and uphold best practices—a gait that empowers, not dictates
  • Worked with rapidly scaling companies—balancing speed, focus, and quality as teams grow
  • AI curiosity: Open to exploring how AI can responsibly enhance efficiencies in product, scalability, and engineering processes
  • Fidelity to costs of zero trust: Comfortable with the technical and programmatic depth needed to align with Vanta’s strict compliance DNA
