Staff Software Engineer

Staff Research Engineer – Early-Stage AI Start-Up (London)

Nelly Works has partnered with an exceptional, early-stage AI start-up in London, developing next-generation intelligent workflows and automation systems. Their vision: the next wave of enterprise value will be driven by software companies that seamlessly scale operational services.

The team is a small, exceptionally talented group of researchers and engineers. Unlike retrofitting AI solutions onto legacy systems, they’re building native AI infrastructure from scratch, shipping to production daily, and moving at extreme speed.

The Role

As a Staff Research Engineer, you will be one of the highest-leverage individual contributors on the team—reporting directly to the Head of Engineering. This isn’t a traditional role with predefined tickets or rigid roadmaps. Instead, you’ll be given broad, open-ended problem spaces, trusted to architect, validate, and ship holistic solutions.

This is a hands-on player-coach role. You’ll stay deeply embedded in the codebase while defining the foundational architecture that will shape the team as it grows.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
