Staff Specialist - Cardiology
Cardiologist – Northern Heart Centre (Launceston General Hospital)
Location: Launceston General Hospital, Tasmania
The Northern Heart Centre is the clinical and operational lynchpin of cardiac care delivery for Tasmania’s north and northwest. The Department of Health is seeking a specialist Cardiologist to lead this vital service in a permanent role, ensuring world-class care for patients who depend on it.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Clinical Director, this position is a permanent full-time day worker with an on-call component (up to 76 hours per fortnight). The role carries a unique opportunity to ultimately apply for the newly created Director, Northern Heart Centre position, which allows eligibility to work across both roles on alternate fortnights.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cardiologist at the Northern Heart Centre, you will play a critical role in:

Patient Care & Clinical Leadership:
- Deliver comprehensive cardiovascular assessment, diagnosis, and management for admitted and referred patients.
- Perform and interpret a broad range of cardiac investigations and interventions (in alignment with scope of practice).
- Contribute to emergency acute cardiac response and after-hours on-call rosters.

Teaching & Supervision:
- Offer clinical education to junior medical staff, registrars, students, and allied health professionals.
- Provide expert guidance to aspiring colleagues in medical training programs.

Service Delivery:
- Work seamlessly across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural settings at Launceston General Hospital (LGH).
- Ensure high standards of care across LGH’s cardiology programs, upholding the Trust’s **north or northwest Tasmania cardiovascular service delivery.

Salary & Structure
- Competitive remuneration (Level 9 Specialist Medical Practitioner). Starting salary $288,000 p.a., with a 10% management allowance applied. Senior pathways (up to $500,000 p.a. in alignment with the Statewide Specialist Medical Practitioner Agreements). Potential for higher earnings with position approval.

- Provision of a motor vehicle (or $28,786 transport allowance).
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) allowance of $17,483 p.a.
- 35% salary or Private Practice cash-in-lieu (if admitted, or 35% flat rate if not).
