Employment Type: Full Time – Temporary (3-year appointment) Classification: Staff Specialist 1-5 / Unit Director Location: Canberra Health Services Section: General Paediatrics – Women, Youth and Children Full-Time Indicative Base Package Value: $344,062 – $453,341 (Pro Rata available for part-time roles)

- Managerial Allowance (Level 2): $44,340 per annum (pro rated for part time)
- Attraction and Retention Incentive: Up to $75,000 per annum (pro rated, subject to eligibility criteria and review every 2 years; does not form part of the base salary)
- Relocation Support: Reimbursement of relocation expenses (up to $55,000) for interstate candidates on permanent/appointment arrangements (conditions apply; reviewed and approved separately)
About the Role
Position Overview
The Unit Director, General Paediatrics provides strategic clinical and operational leadership for General Paediatric services within Canberra Health Services. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based paediatric care across acute services
- Driving service innovation, workforce capability, and clinical governance
- Collaborating with nursing, allied health, and executive teams to deliver integrated, person-centred services aligned with CHS priorities
- Balancing senior clinical practice with leadership responsibilities to develop a modern, sustainable paediatric service

Special Considerations
- The 3-year appointment is accompanied by a Managerial Allowance (Level 2).
- The role is supported by a Deputy Director position and operates under the Public Sector Management Act (1994), ACT Public Service Code of Conduct, and specialist college standards.
- Exclusive scope: This role is not operational for CHS Community Paediatrics (overseen by a separate Unit Director) but may offer professional leadership support to that team.
Conjoint Opportunity with ANU
- Preferred candidates may be considered for a conjoint position with the Australian National University (ANU), at an academic level commensurate with qualifications/experience.
- The conjoint position is held for the duration of CHS employment and subject to annual performance reviews.
- No remuneration attached, but the employee will report to:
- ANU (academic matters)
- Canberra Health Services (clinical/research matters)

Requirements
Eligibility & Minimum Qualifications
To commence this role, you must:
- Hold Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
- Meet MDAAC credentialing requirements and receive an Endorsed scope of clinical practice from the Medical Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC)
- Undergo a National Police Check
- Comply with Canberra Health Services’ Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Policy
