Staff Technical Program Manager
Staff Technical Program Manager – Cloud Platform Modernisation (GCP)
A consultant Junior Select role for 6 months initially, Outside IR35, based in London for a globally recognised consumer technology business.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity to take ownership of a large-scale cloud platform modernisation programme from on-premises to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). In this hands-on leadership role, you will:
- Drive end-to-end execution of a multi-quarter cloud migration programme.
- Assess delivery health, identify technical and organisational risks, and restructure execution plans.
- Bridge the gap between engineering, architecture, and executive leadership, ensuring alignment and seamless delivery.
You will operate at the intersection of software engineering, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, site reliability, and architecture, with influence over key technical decisions while driving cross-functional teams towards success.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the delivery of a complex cloud replatforming and platform modernisation programme, including:
- Assess and improve delivery health
- Audit the current state of migration, identifying risks, dependencies, and recovery priorities.
- Develop and execute programme recovery plans focused on improving predictability and confidence.

Cross-functional execution
- Coordinate migration planning, release sequencing, and production cutover strategies across Engineering, Platform, Infrastructure, Architecture, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams.
- Translate architectural strategy into executable delivery plans with measurable outcomes.

Technical & leadership facilitation
- Facilitate technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and ensure alignment among senior stakeholders.
- Lead executive governance forums, reporting programme health, risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.

Governance & success metrics
- Establish effective governance and reporting frameworks to track programme progress strategically.
Requirements
Essential
- Extensive experience leading enterprise-scale technical programmes in cloud, platform engineering, or technology transformation.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale cloud migrations or replatforming initiatives, including recovery, acceleration, or restructure efforts.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, Kubernetes, cloud-native architectures, and modern platform engineering practices.
- Experience influencing technical decisions across multiple engineering organisations and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and modern cloud operating models.
- Exceptional communication skills to engage with both technical and executive audiences.

Desirable
- Previous hands-on experience as a Software/Platform/Infrastructure Engineer, SRE, or Solutions Architect.
- Technical knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and cloud automation.
- Experience in customer-facing platform stabilisation with high availability & reliability.
- Official Google Cloud certifications, such as Professional Cloud Architect or DevOps Engineer.
- Prior success leading platform modernisation, cloud-native transformation, or containerisation programmes.
