Our Water Industry Forum provides challenge-led, independent thought leadership, to tackle the challenges facing the sector.

Main Purpose of the Job

To work collaboratively with British Water’s Stakeholder Engagement Officer – UK Forum, Policy and Regulation Lead, Strategic & Special Projects Consultant, members, and key partners to deliver the activities and events of the Technical Forum.

Reporting to

Strategic & Special Projects Consultant

Responsible for

  • Running 5 Technical Forum focus groups: Innovation, Data & Analytics, Sustainable Water Management, Micropollutants, and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • Assisting with the Technical Forum Task-and-Finish Groups.
  • Leading the organisation of the main Technical Forum Meeting.
  • Leading the development of agendas and technical content for British Water's Technical Forum conferences, working in collaboration with the events team on delivery.
  • Establishing and building relationships with existing and new key stakeholders to identify opportunities to raise the profile of members and British Water and develop engagement plans.
  • Assisting in the organisation and delivery of the Annual British Water International Reception.
  • Assisting in the tracking of public consultations, legislation, and policy updates related to Technical and International opportunities.
  • Assisting in the delivery of other British Water meetings as and when required.
  • Strengthening and increasing the delivery of Technical and International engagement opportunities for British Water members.
  • Responding to enquiries (email and phone calls).
  • Helping to identify opportunities for cross-sector and cross-forum collaboration.
  • Supporting the development of British Water services.
  • Developing British Water’s forum services.

Main Tasks of Job

  • Responsible for organising the delivery of Technical Forum services and assisting with International Forum services.
  • Coordinating and supporting programme initiatives and partnerships: event partnerships, blogs, etc., which help share best practice, foster collaboration, and support our members' business development plans.
  • Lead the development of agendas, technical content and speaker programmes for Technical Forum conferences, working collaboratively with the events team on conference delivery.
  • Respond to enquiries and ensure the focus remains on British Water’s priority areas.
  • Assist in maintaining the forum database, monitoring engagement, tracking focus group metrics and dashboards, and conducting surveys.
  • Support UK, Technical and International initiatives, events, and meetings, including:
    • Arranging meetings, registration, and distribution of agendas/papers, etc.
    • Following up with attendees and implementing actions as required after meetings.
  • Carry out administrative duties when required.
  • Coordinate activities with other British Water colleagues.
  • Assist in the communication (social media, email, press releases, etc.) of the work of the Technical and International Forums in collaboration with British Water's marketing team, including supporting the Thought Leadership series by identifying thematic topics and potential speakers of interest to members.

This may include taking on additional tasks or responsibilities that fall outside their usual remit as new opportunities and priorities arise. This evolving environment also presents opportunities for individuals to assume greater responsibility and play an active role in shaping the future direction of British Water’s forum activities.

Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Skills & Knowledge

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, both verbally and in writing in English.
  • Professional knowledge of and interest in the water, wastewater and environment sector.
  • Highly organised and methodical, with strong project management and time management skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure, multitask, and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Skilled in, or able to demonstrate the ability to build stakeholder relationships and engagement, with an understanding of or interest in multicultural economies and international markets.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree in a relevant area (e.g., water/environment/civil engineering) and/or a minimum of three years water and wastewater sector experience. A master’s degree is desirable.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work across various digital and communications platforms (Teams, ZOOM).
  • Language: English (Fully Professional). A second language is desirable.

Candidates Must Be

  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Able to work from home full-time.
  • Able to travel within the UK and overseas for meetings and events as required.
