Graduate Operations Manager
Department: Graduate Recruitment
Location: Peninsula House (South West Water HQ) Compensation: £30,000 / year
About the Role
As a Graduate Operations Manager, you will be responsible for learning to lead the operational and financial performance of the contract, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and to key customer expectations. As a key member of the contract succession plan, you will be supported to learn from existing Operations Managers across different functions, with the potential to take on senior leadership roles in the future.
Key Responsibilities
You will learn to lead the following specific tasks, working alongside current Operations Managers:
Contract Compliance & Management
- Chair the daily Toughbook compliance meeting to address redlines and offsite forms.
- Re-implement the team dashboard tracking compliance metrics, including productivity, GCat compliance, and speeding violations.
- Manage the BW Contract fleet, plant, and logistics, ensuring proper vehicle allocation and conducting regular plant audits.
- Oversee depot operations, maintaining compliance with Health & Safety (H&S), induction processes, and delivery procedures.
- Ensure the Logistics Manager receives adequate support to maintain stock of essential consumables, including emergency overnight (OOH) supplies.

Training & Development
- Finalise and establish a dedicated training/induction facility within the yard.
- Become an expert in the company and contract induction process.
Operational Efficiency
- Lead the daily jeopardy exercise to assess dig completions, reallocate pending tasks, and mitigate risks of cancellation to optimise dig crew efficiency.
Reinstatement Expertise
- Gain proficiency in reinstatement processes, including backfill, site clear activities, and planning.
- Develop a foundational understanding of street works legislation, particularly NRSWA, Section 74 compliance, defects, and permit durations.
- Take an active interest in highways reinstatement engineering, with aspirations to train and mentor colleagues across departments like planners or promoters.

Experience & Qualifications
- Recent graduate with a degree in a relevant field.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
