The Startup Solutions Architect (SA) role thrives at the nexus of business and technology, partnering closely with startups at every stage. Your responsibility is to bridge gaps between customer business objectives and AWS prescriptive guidance, while also driving broader impact through technical content and best practices.

About the Role
You’ll focus on elevating AWS customers’ technical experience through:
- Strategic cloud-native architecture design: Develop industry-winning reference architectures through hands-on customer projects.
- Tailored startup engagement: Create custom-engagement strategies aligned with startups’ distinctive adoption patterns and scaling needs.
- Customer-centric innovation: Engage with customers to refine AWS’ feature set via roadmap influence and content development (e.g., whitepapers, workshops, or public-facing materials).
- Hardware & software expertise: evangelise AWS technologies through workshops, speaking engagements, conferences, and hands-on solutions.
Each day presents a different challenge—whether exploring customers’ goals, crafting scalable solutions, or applying AWS partners’ tools to meet critical business outcomes. Your role will evolve as you drive continuous learning, whether through interactions with peers or the problems you solve.
You’ll be part of AWS’ revenue, adoption, and growth team as well as the Global Support organisation, where customer success is core to our mission—qualities that apply whether you’re advising a high-growth startup or advising a public sector enterprise.

Key Responsibilities
As a Startup Solutions Architect, your work will:
- Advise and co-create technology-powered strategies with startups, ensuring their business milestones are met via well-architected cloud architectures.
- Serve as a trusted Focused Advisor (FA), prioritising the customer’s long-term business outcomes, even when it means diverging from simple scripted recommendations.
- Gather customer insights to influence AWS’ technical roadmap, fostering innovation for mutual benefit.
- Develop and share frameable AWS best practices (whitepapers, architecture diagrams, blog posts, conference talks).
- Join hands with founders, CTOs, and internal experts to innovate on cutting-edge cloud use cases (truless future for deep technical explorations).

The day-to-day dynamic blends cross-functional teamwork with hands-on collaboration:
- Client interviews, ideation, and collaborative whiteboarding sessions to turn customer needs into actionable cloud roadmaps.
- Building trust and thought leadership through educational workshops (1:1 or group-based) that communicate levels of risk, scalability, or efficiency.
- Stitching together strategies with internal specialists (engineering, sales, and DevOps teams) to plan future-proof systems architecture.
- Incorporate lessons from hundreds of startup case studies into your advice—gradually shaping a specialised portfolio of industry-leading experiences that uniquely benefit AWS’ customers.

Basic Qualifications
To lead in this role, you’ll exhibit:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a practical equivalent in engineering-based professions or as a military professional.
- Significant experience in IT development, engineering, software development, or consulting, particularly in online (software/web) applications, security, or infrastructure.
- Hands-on expertise in specific tech domains (e.g. applying knowledge in data & analytics, security, or networking to a complex, real-world problem set).
- Experience communicating technically to both non-engineers and executives.
Additionally:
- Hands-on skills applying cloud principles or best practices to technical problem-solving.
- Experience contributing to entrepreneurial communities upfront or on the side (e.g., startup enthusiast, side-project contributor, community engagement).
Bonus worth highlighting: Experience working with customer communities or developer relations.

Preferred Qualifications
More rigorously minimizes ownership proficiency:
- Practical expertise in cloud architecture, especially with AWS-based technologies (EC2, CloudFormation, Lambda, etc.).
- Specialisation in designing and building databases, infrastructure, or hybrid cloud models.
- Ability to contribute to communities or fuel inspirational moments (e.g., mentoring young devs, speaking at tech meets or webinars).
