Statutory Compliance Project Manager – Process Safety Compliance Team

About the Role

We are seeking a Statutory Compliance Project Manager to join our Process Safety Compliance Team, focusing on managing implementation and ongoing adherence to DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002).

As a Statutory Compliance Project Manager, you’ll hold a high level of responsibility overseeing full DSEAR compliance across Severn Trent (ST) and Hafren Dyfrdwy (HD), ensuring company standards are met and providing critical support for all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Completing DSEAR site risk assessments and hazardous area classifications
  • Ensuring DSEAR compliance across all functional areas
  • Managing periodic statutory inspections of assets and equipment in hazardous areas
  • Supporting remedial rectification of non-compliant equipment and installations
  • Controlling and managing DSEAR-related risks
  • Improving asset data and maintenance planning related to DSEAR compliance
  • Providing technical support on DSEAR compliance, best practices, and sharing learnings
  • Overseeing contractors to guarantee compliance with DSEAR inspection and remedial tasks
  • Supporting DSEAR competency improvements across ST and HD

You will also assist with:

  • Related Health & Safety standards, regulation updates, safety bulletins, and accident investigations
  • Managing information to track performance against compliance criteria and service-level agreements
  • Ensuring timely resolution of issues and risks
  • Managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders via regular review meetings and team gatherings
  • Developing systems and processes to meet DSEAR and company standards
  • Handling operational and capital financial management for compliance activities
  • Collaborating closely with capital delivery teams, safety groups, and Communities of Practice (CoPs)

Work hours: 37 hours per week

Requirements

To excel in this role, we are seeking candidates with:

  • Experience delivering multi-site projects with operational and H&S expertise
  • Strong understanding of DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) and associated standards
  • Experience in the water industry, including wastewater and water treatment processes
  • Contract management skills with experience working with contractors and suppliers
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, alongside their maintenance operational activities (beneficial but not mandatory)

Desirable (though not essential):

  • NVQ Level 3 (Electrical/Mechanical) / CompEx certification
  • APM (Association for Project Management) or equivalent qualifications
  • IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) or NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health)
