As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Steam Turbine Manager to contribute to our Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role Overview

The Steam Turbine Manager is responsible for overseeing the installation and construction activities of the steam turbine system and auxiliary plant on a major energy clean energy project. This role ensures that all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and coordinate all steam turbine construction activities on site.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental policies.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular updates to project management.
  • Resolve technical and construction issues in collaboration with OEM Site team.
  • Oversee logistics and ensure timely delivery of turbine components and tools.
  • Conduct inspections and ensure proper alignment, torquing, and commissioning readiness.
  • Support commissioning and start-up teams during mechanical completion and handover
  • Deliver Steam Turbine Package Safely, On time and within budget
  • Apply Zero Harm programme to steam turbine activities
  • Apply Right First-Time programme to steam turbine activities
  • Ensure compliance on build it clean programme within steam turbine activities
  • Embed and collaborative working culture with transparency and speed built in

Who we're looking for

  • Proven experience in steam turbine installation and construction leadership.
  • Strong understanding of turbine components, alignment procedures, and mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with OEM standards (e.g., GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Doosan Skoda).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Relevant engineering or technical qualification (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management).
  • Safety certifications (e.g., CSCS, OSHA, IOSH, NEBOSH) preferred.
