Sterile Services Technician – Job Description

About Us

At STERIS Instrument Processing we are experts in surgical instrument sterilisation. We offer both on and off-site re-processing, alongside reliable instrument maintenance solutions. Our diverse and talented teams utilise cutting-edge technology to ensure the highest quality of infection prevention, delivering this to our valued customers.

We are now recruiting for a Sterile Services Technician role—an excellent entry-level opportunity with world-class training, leading to a defined career pathway.

Training & Working Pattern

  • 12-week structured training programme
    • Initial weeks: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
    • Subsequent shifts: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM

What You Will Do

During this role, you'll play a critical part in ensuring sterile surgical instruments and consumables are safely reprocessed for multiple uses. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting a highly regulated end-to-end sterilisation/decontamination process for surgical instruments from NHS and private hospitals, guaranteeing they are safe for re-use.
  • Preparing sterile consumables—including dressings, linen, surgical instruments, and equipment—through:
    • Decontamination
    • Inspection
    • Assembly
    • Packing following strict quality standards.
  • Verification tasks:
    • Checking, washing, laying-up, and packing theatre instrument sets to meet contract specifications.
    • Monitoring machines and equipment (e.g., washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, sterilisers).
  • Ensuring traceability and accountability:
    • Logging repairs/missing equipment on the SynergyTrak system.
    • Confirming repaired or recoded items are returned to stock or designated sets.
