Position Summary
The Steward plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all kitchen and food service areas at The Elms Hotel & Spa. This position is responsible for washing dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards. The Steward supports the Culinary and Food & Beverage teams by maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
Essential Job Functions
- Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils.
- Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen work areas, floors, walls, drains, storage areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Remove trash and recycling and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, worktables, shelves, and food preparation areas.
- Restock clean dishes, cookware, utensils, and supplies throughout kitchen and banquet areas.
- Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries as needed.
- Help maintain organization of storage rooms, walk-in coolers, and dry storage areas.
- Support culinary and banquet teams with event setup and breakdown as requested.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and OSHA guidelines.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns promptly.
- Practice safe chemical handling and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work collaboratively with all departments to ensure exceptional guest service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous stewarding, dishwashing, or restaurant experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong work ethic and dependability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Regular bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and kneeling.
- Ability to work in hot, humid, wet, and fast-paced kitchen environments.
- Ability to safely operate commercial dishwashing equipment and cleaning tools.

- Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
Compensation
$15.00 - $15.00
