Retail Manager – Large Format Retail

We're recruiting for an experienced Retail Manager to lead a large-format donation and retail operation in Ipswich.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded retail leader who enjoys managing large teams, driving operational excellence, and delivering outstanding customer experiences within a fast-paced environment.
You'll take full responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the site, overseeing customer service, team leadership, stock flow, operational standards, community engagement, and financial performance.
The Role
As Retail Manager, you will lead from the front, creating a positive and high-performing culture while ensuring the operation runs efficiently and achieves key performance targets.
You will manage a sizeable team of employees and volunteers, optimise donations and sales, maintain exceptional operational standards, and build strong relationships within the local community.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and develop a large team to achieve operational and commercial objectives
- Drive performance across customer service, donations, sales and profitability
- Manage day-to-day site operations, ensuring smooth and efficient processes
- Recruit, train and develop staff and volunteers
- Monitor KPIs and implement improvement plans where required
- Build relationships with local businesses, community groups and stakeholders
- Ensure high standards of stock management, presentation and compliance
- Promote customer engagement and maximise Gift Aid participation
- Maintain excellent health and safety standards across the operation
- Take ownership of budgets, costs and overall site performance
About You
- Previous experience managing a large retail operation or high-volume customer-facing environment
- Proven ability to lead and develop large teams
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing sales, costs and performance metrics
- Excellent communication and people management skills
- A hands-on leadership style with the ability to inspire and motivate others
- Experience within charity retail, large-format retail, DIY, discount retail, supermarkets, warehouse retail or garden centres would be advantageous
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
- Passionate about delivering outstanding customer service and community engagement
