Are you an experienced retail leader who cares about people, takes pride in great customer service and knows how to bring out the best in a team?
We’re looking for a confident Store Manager to lead our Boots Opticians store in Altrincham – a large, high street location within a busy Boots store, with excellent tram and train links just outside Manchester city centre. With a team of around 15 colleagues and a strong foundation already in place, this is a great opportunity for a strong leader to step in, build momentum and drive performance forward.
This store has a good, capable team ready to be guided and supported. Your role will be to bring clarity and direction — focusing on driving sales, improving KPIs, supporting clinicians and creating a consistently great experience for every customer.
Boots Opticians is always evolving, with new products, services and ways of working being introduced. You’ll play a key role in bringing these to life in your store, making sure they feel relevant and meaningful for your local customers.
As Store Manager, you’ll lead from the front — visible on the shop floor, setting the tone for service and creating a culture where people feel supported, confident and able to perform at their best. You’ll work closely with your team to understand what’s working, where improvements can be made, and how to keep raising standards.
This is a full-time role, working 5 days across Monday to Sunday (with a shorter trading day on Sundays). You’ll be supported with a structured 12-week induction and buddying to help you settle in and succeed.
This role is ideal for an experienced leader with a track record of managing teams of at least 8 colleagues, who’s ready to take ownership of a larger, more complex store. Optics experience is preferred, but not essential — we’ll support you to build your knowledge.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
