Store Manager - WHSmith

WHSmith Store Manager – Lead the UK’s Rest Stop Revolution

40hrs per week | £32,500 per annum Winchester Services, M3, Shroner Wood, Winchester SO21 1PP

About the Role

As Store Manager, you’ll prioritise people with impact. You’ll elevate every visitor’s experience, run your store with confidence, and foster a culture that inspires excellence. At WHSmith, you’ll lead change – shaping the future of the UK’s rest stops one transaction at a time, while empowering your team to deliver outstanding service.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Exceed quota targets: Hit and surpass budget, P&L, and commercial goals
  • Lead with purpose: Mentor and develop your team to ensure they feel valued and prepared for growth
  • Drive excellence: Maintain WHSmith’s brand standards while delivering consistent, high-touch customer service
  • Operational responsibility: Take control of store leadership from open to close, ensuring seamless execution under pressure

What You’ll Bring

  • Track record in leadership: Proven experience managing teams in high-volume retail, catering or hospitality
  • Financial acumen: Strong ability to manage budgets, profit & loss, labour costs, and identify operational efficiencies
  • Relationship builder: A skill for fostering collaboration across every level – both internal (staff) and external (partners)
  • Coaching instinct: Cultural understanding of motivating teams through training, development, and succession planning
  • Adaptable mindset: Remains calm, decisive, and focused during peak pressures and chaotic scenarios
