Storeman / Warehouse Assistant

About The Role

The Storeman is responsible for managing the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods/parts in a warehouse or stockroom. This role ensures accurate inventory control, proper storage practices, and timely distribution of materials.

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Working location: BYD’s Reading site, RG2 0TG

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming goods against delivery notes or invoices
  • Store materials in designated locations following company procedures
  • Pick, pack, and prepare orders for dispatch
  • Maintain accurate stock records and update inventory systems
  • Conduct regular stock counts and assist with audits
  • Ensure the warehouse is clean, organized, and safe at all times
  • Operate warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) where required
  • Report damaged or missing items to supervisors
  • Follow health and safety regulations and company policies

Your profile:

  • Previous experience in a warehouse/storekeeping role preferred
  • Basic understanding of inventory management systems
  • Good organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Forklift license (desirable but not always required)
  • Right to work in the UK
