Stores Assistant
Reports to: Materials & Stores Lead

In this role, the Stores Assistant is responsible for the efficient and accurate receipt of incoming goods and materials. They will be responsible for checking deliveries, ensuring stock is correctly booked into the system, and maintaining a clean and organised stores area. The role also involves storing materials in the correct locations to ensure easy identification and access, picking stock accurately in line with job or production requirements, and distributing materials promptly and efficiently to the production department to support smooth workflow and minimise downtime.
Key Accountabilities
Receiving & Inspection
- Receive all incoming goods and verify delivery notes against purchase orders.
- Check items for quantity, quality, and signs of damage.
- Report any delivery discrepancies or damaged goods promptly to the appropriate department.

Stock Management
- Accurately book received items into the inventory system or manual records.
- Label and allocate stock to designated locations.
- Support regular cycle counts, and full stock takes.
- Ensure first-in, first-out (FIFO) principles are followed where applicable.
- Safe and timely transportation of materials, equipment, and supplies between company sites in accordance with operational requirements.
Order Placement & Coordination
- Liaise with the purchasing team to confirm incoming deliveries.
- Communicate any shortages, incorrect deliveries, or delays to relevant stakeholders.
- Support the generation of internal requisitions or re-orders when required.
- Help prepare kits or materials for production or other departments as scheduled.
- Coordinate returns of incorrect or damaged goods to suppliers.
Vehicle & Tool Management
- Carry out routine checks on company vehicles used for goods transport (if applicable).
- Ensure loading/unloading equipment (e.g. pallet trucks, trolleys) is maintained and used safely.
- Maintain a log or record of shared tools and equipment within the stores.
- Report faults or required maintenance of vehicles and tools to the appropriate person.
- Ensure tools are stored securely and issued/returned following site procedures.
Storage & Organisation
- Place goods in correct storage areas, ensuring safe stacking and handling procedures.
- Maintain clear labelling and logical stock layout.
- Keep the goods-in and surrounding areas tidy, safe, and well-organised.

Communication & Coordination
- Liaise with purchasing and production teams regarding incoming deliveries and shortages.
- Communicate effectively with other warehouse team members to ensure smooth stock flow.
- Support internal departments with locating or retrieving stock when necessary.
Health & Safety
- Follow all warehouse safety procedures and guidelines.
- Use manual handling techniques safely and correctly.
- Operate equipment such as pallet trucks, forklift trucks, and cranes.
What We’re Looking For
To Thrive In This Role, You Should Bring
- Significant experience in warehousing or stores role, ideally focused on goods-in, picking, and distribution processes.
- Forklift truck license is essential.
- Crane license is essential.
- Demonstrated knowledge of stock control and inventory systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- A self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and handling physical goods.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving ability with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving stock discrepancies, delivery issues, or storage challenges.
