Astute’s Power Team are working with one of the country’s leading Waste Management companies and supporting the recruitment of their newest Energy from Waste facility. The Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant is currently under construction, and when complete will be exporting ~70MW of electricity to the grid, processing circa 600,000 tonnes of waste per year.
We are currently recruiting a Stores Controller to join the Maintenance Department where you will be responsible for management of the stores function within the power station. This will include supporting the procurement team with purchasing of materials, services and equipment whilst ensuring the stores have parts availability.

Responsibilities And Duties
As the Stores Controller, you will be responsible for:
- Managed and maintained inventory levels for stores stock and consumables, ensuring the continuous availability of critical materials.
- Conducted routine stock checks and produced accurate inventory and performance reports.
- Raised and managed purchase orders, processed invoices, and maintained effective supplier relationships.
- Coordinated the timely and accurate receipt, documentation, and return of deliveries.
- Monitored PPE inventory levels and maintained an organised, compliant stores environment.
- Supported outage planning by ensuring required materials and equipment were available when needed.
- Operated material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet trucks, in line with safety procedures.
- Maintained accurate inventory records and analysed stock trends to support effective stock control.
- Assisted in the development, implementation, and ongoing use of CMMS to improve maintenance and inventory management.
- Collaborated with internal departments and external suppliers to support operational efficiency and business performance.

Professional Qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Ideally apprentice trained in a technical / engineering background
- IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous
Personal Skills
The Stores Controller role would suit someone with:
- Similar working experience in a similar engineering or heavy process environment. This can include Power Generation, Refineries, Manufacturing, FMCG, Food, Petrochemical etc
- At least three years’ working experience
- Competent on IT systems including a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and MS Office
- Understanding of H&S regulations including COSHH, LOLER, PUWER etc.
