Job Overview

The Straight to Test Clerk role ensures the delivery of an effective and efficient administrative and clerical service to the Colorectal team.

The postholder will work closely with the Straight to Test nurse practitioner alongside other administrative and clinical colleagues.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The Straight to Test Clerk will serve as the primary point of contact for the Straight to Test referrals pathway.

This role requires close coordination with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, including Department Managers, Consultants, clinical and administrative staff, GP practices, patients, visitors, health records teams, clinic receptionists, ward clerks, nursing staff, and outpatient management teams.

The STT Clerk is responsible for sending letters and EIDO consent information to patients selected for telephone clinic appointments. The STT clerk will efficiently process outcomes, and arrange any required diagnostics or follow-up clinic appointments.

The Straight to Test spreadsheet will be kept accurate and up to date with regular monitoring of patient status ensuring all correspondence is issued on time and that patients are removed from outpatient waiting lists when appropriate, in line with local policies, procedures, and Welsh Assembly guidelines.

The role includes maintaining accurate, up-to-date information on the WPAS system, ensuring data quality and making pathway adjustments in accordance with policy.

Additional responsibilities include managing clinic cancellations in accordance with PABC policies and procedures, escalating any issues to the Surgical Management Team. The STT Clerk communicates regularly with patients, healthcare professionals, external agencies, and BCUHB staff regarding appointment queries and clinic availability.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NVQ Business Administration L3 or equivalent experience
  • RSA /OCR level 2 or equivalent experience (must be a proficient user of Microsoft word)
  • IT related qualification CLAIT plus /ECDL or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • AMSPAR – City & Guilds L3
  • NVQ Customer Service L3

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of a range of administrative processes
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment
  • Experience of typing

  • Experience of working within the NHS
