Strategic Account Manager
Position reports to: Head of Sales & Bids
About the Role
We are appointing a Strategic Account Manager to take ownership of our rail & engineering key customer portfolio. This is a high-impact role with direct accountability for:
- Relationship management
- Pipeline generation
- Bid conversion
- Long-term contract value
You will operate at a senior level, leading client relationship development to drive increased revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive structured bid/no-bid governance to maximise conversion rates
- Develop win strategies aligned to scoring criteria, value for money, and social value
- Collaborate with commercial leads on pricing discipline
- Ensure forecast accuracy and monthly revenue reporting
- Continuously improve bid quality and conversion performance
- Lead relationship management and development
- Increase win rates and upsell opportunities to grow market share
- Oversee and report account performance with operations teams
- Develop account plans to enhance awareness and opportunities
- Steer weekly, monthly, and quarterly calls/meetings
- Provide monthly reports on account progress, industry positioning, and market opportunities
- Optimise use of the CRM system (HubSpot) for tracking pipelines and KPIs

Essential Experience
- Proven success in strategic account management
- Expertise in pipeline management, aligned to growth targets and sales conversion
- Strong ability to manage stakeholders and influence strategically
- Sharp analytical and communication skills
- Robust commercial acumen, including pricing awareness
- Understanding of terms & conditions, risk management, and forecasting
- Experience providing clear account racing and alignment of opportunities/timelines
Desirable Experience
- Industry-specific background in rail, blue-collar environments, or geographically dispersed SMEs
- Familiarity with sales/bid procurement systems & Microsoft Office Suite
- Proven track record of winning complex public sector consultancy contracts
