Strategic Growth Director – Business Development and Client Engagement – Sustainability, Earth and Environment

About the Role

This position centers on shaping, coordinating, and driving business development, client engagement, and market strategy across WSP’s Earth, Environment and Sustainability portfolio. Your focus will be on:

  • Translating portfolio strategy into practical growth activity through enhanced relationships with corporate clients, expanded access to decision-makers, market opportunity identification, and coordinated bid-winning efforts.
  • Addressing key market intersections: environmental risk, sustainability outcomes, climate resilience, planning/consenting, nature, and digital solutions—while engaging both established and emerging markets.
  • Operating as a bridge between client needs, sector strategy, technical expertise, and competitive pursuits.

You will work closely with:

  • Strategic Growth Leads & Managing Directors
  • Heads of Discipline & Sector Leads
  • Key Account Managers & Marketing Teams
  • Bid, Proposal, and Commercial Teams
  • Technical & Delivery Leadership

Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management & Growth

  • Design and execute a structured engagement program with priority clients and sectors, improving relationship depth and access to C-suite and decision-makers.
  • Lead market feedback processes, converting insights into actionable outcomes to strengthen client experience and future positioning.
  • Coordinate efforts to expand cross-selling opportunities across Earth, Environment, and Sustainability capabilities.

Pipeline & Opportunity Development

  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities in existing, adjacent, and emerging markets to build a better-pipelined portfolio.
  • Support strategic pursuits by contributing to capture planning, client intelligence, positioning, and bid strategy for high-value opportunities.

Marketing & Visibility

  • Oversee market profile activities (campaigns, events, thought-leadership) to highlight WSP’s technical strengths and differentiators.

Collaborative Governance

  • Drive accountability through consistent reporting, CRM tracking, and pipeline ownership.
  • Act as portfolio lead for client feedback and alignment across growth teams.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for expertise in:

  • Client engagement program design and senior-level relationship building.
  • Business development with a focus on environmental, sustainability, planning, and digital integration.
  • Cross-selling to combine multiple technical disciplines for integrated client solutions.
  • Strategic growth practices with a disciplined approach to qualification, account planning, and marketing.
  • Ability to scrutinize market intelligence and translate it into growth initiatives.
  • Proficiency in client feedback-led improvement and pipelinely metrics optimization.

Key Interfaces

Key stakeholders include:

  • Strategic Growth Leads (Richard Clayton, Elena Amirkhanova), portfolio leadership (Mark Hurley, Barry Cowell).
  • Managing Directors (Charles Humphries, Chris Warner) and Heads of Disciplines.
  • Technical leaders, sector leads, and marketing & communications teams.
  • Bid proposal/capture teams and external industry partners for thought leadership.
