Strategic Planning Lead
We're looking for a Strategic Planning Lead for a public sector organisation based in Dorset (hybrid) on an initial 6-month contract, paying up to £750 per day (Outside IR35).
This is a hybrid role with an expectation to attend the office in Dorset 3 to 4 days a week. There's potential for the contract to be extended.
The successful Strategic Planning Lead will drive the delivery of a new Local Plan under the latest NPPF, along with a new Design Guide. You'll establish a clear critical path and robust project management arrangements, then lead through them to make tangible progress. Reporting jointly to senior directors, you'll manage the Spatial Planning function and its teams (around 50 people) and make sure resources across the Planning Department are geared towards producing the new Local Plan.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
