Strategic Projects General Manager

Strategic Project General Manager

[As per our policy note: This advert closes at 23:59 GMT the day before the stated end date (i.e., 15 July 2026).]

Location: St Vincent Crescent Salary: £96,000–£120,000 + 40% bonus + Family Medical package + car allowance

About the Role

As a key member of the SP Distribution (SPEN) Licence senior management team, this role leads strategic direction, governance, and performance across the allocated Strategic Projects portfolio, ensuring the regulatory (RIIO), customer, safety, and commercial requirements are consistently met.

This engaging position is critical to strengthen senior oversight during ED2, supporting the development and implementation of the ED3 Target Operating Model for Capital Delivery. As the organisation transitions, the span of control, governance frameworks, and delivery accountabilities may evolve, demanding agility and adaptability from the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee portfolio governance & leadership:

    • Drive portfolio performance in safety, quality, cost, schedule, and customer outcomes.
    • Set clear direction, prioritise projects, and hold programme delivery leaders accountable for scope, budget, timelines, and quality—escalating risks and trade-offs to the Licence Governance Board.
  • Strategic project oversight:

    • Lead assurance of SPEN investments, ensuring optimal efficiency and effectiveness while aligning with commercial objectives.
    • Maintain alignment across programmes and projects, addressing cross-functional constraints to guarantee timely, cost-effective delivery.
  • Customer service & stakeholder engagement:

    • Champion excellent customer service by establishing portfolio standards and resolving escalated issues through internal and external interfaces (including NP&R and Transmission).
  • Key interface management:

    • Lead engagement with internal (Procurement, Land & Planning, Legal, Operations) and external stakeholders (customers, landowners, developers, local authorities), ensuring governance decisions are secured to facilitate project delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
