Strategy Analyst VP – Barclays Payments
About the Role
As Strategy Analyst VP within Barclays Payments, you’ll lead high-impact strategic initiatives that shape the future direction of the business, contributing to pivotal commercial growth and operational transformation.
Your primary focus includes:
- Conducting in-depth analysis on growth strategy and capital allocation, translating complex insights into clear, strategic recommendations
- Designing and articulating strategic plans in close collaboration with senior stakeholders
- Supporting elements of the recovery plan to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and broader objectives
About Barclays Payments
Barclays’ payments acceptance business delivers critical infrastructure supporting the UK economy, processing billions of transactions annually across small businesses and corporate clients. Through a landmark partnership with Brookfield Asset Management, the unit will broaden services, enhance client experiences, and drive innovation. Barclays has committed over £400m in investment, with performance-based incentives reinforcing long-term commitment—eventually forming a standalone Barclaycard Payments (BPL) entity focused on regulatory assurances and business continuity.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead strategic initiatives shaping Barclays Payments’ direction, ensuring alignment with growth targets and regulatory compliance
- Provide independent strategic advice to executive stakeholders through problem-solving frameworks
- Articulate compelling narratives to influence decision-making at leadership levels
Growth and Optimisation
- Develop and execute strategic advisory incentives with evidence-backed market analysis and financial projections
- Assess and optimise bank operations, improving efficiency, profitability, and client value

M&A and Post-Transaction Οverview
- Support mergers and acquisitions, contributing to strategic assessments, due diligence, and integration planning
Client and Relationship Management
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain and expand client relationships to uncover new opportunities
- Identify industry trends, conduct peer benchmarking, and recommend strategic improvements
Analytical and Technical Expertise
- Design sophisticated financial models to support transactions and long-term strategy
- Ensure strategic plans are feasible in technology/operational frameworks with product/technology teams
Partnership and Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work with transformation teams to align operating models (TOM), governance structures, and technology capabilities
- Bring payments sector expertise to broker creativity between various stakeholders (product, technology, risk, etc.)
Essential Requirements
Must-Have
- Exceptional strategic capability, with proven experience developing and executing business strategies (consulting background is highly valued)
- Payments or financial services experience, including knowledge of product systems, AI-driven trends, or operational transformations
- Strong stakeholder influence skills, demonstrating the ability to articulate strategic opportunities convincingly to senior leaders
Preferred
- Expertise in Target Operating Model (TOM) design and aligning processes to digital and business objectives
- Experience managing portfolio transactions through due diligence to integration

Accountabilities
Strategic Advisory & Decision-Making
- Deliver evidence-driven recommendations to Group Executives on business challenges and opportunities
- Guide financial analysis and impact assessments for transactions, partnerships, or operational shifts
Risk and Controls Leadership
- Mitigate operational/compliance risks aligned with merit exposure and sector best practices
- Collaborate with governance teams to refine controls and reinforce operational resilience
Relational & Communication Responsibilities
- Broker constructive relationships with diverse stakeholders ( internally/externally ) to drive alignment
Individual or Team Contribution
