About the Role
Hackajob is collaborating with Barclays to connect them with exceptional professionals for this critical leadership position.
The Director of Governance & Executive Support will own and govern end-to-end business governance frameworks, ensuring robust structures, controls, and disciplines to support:
- Strategic decision-making
- Regulatory adherence
- Effective delivery of both strategic and business-as-usual (BAU) activities
This role sits at the intersection of executive leadership and cross-functional collaboration, where you will:
- Translate senior priorities into clear, executable plans
- Drive alignment, accountability, and timely delivery across stakeholders
- Lead governance forums, ensuring disciplined follow-through, risk oversight, and performance tracking against objectives
You will also transform complex business, financial, and operational data into concise insights, enabling informed decision-making—making this a critical partner for the executive team.
As a people leader, you will build, lead, and develop a high-performing team, promoting an inclusive culture that delivers transformation and operational excellence.

Key Accountabilities
Strategic Executive Support
- Provide strategic support to senior executives (e.g., CEO, Chief Officers)
- Assist in business strategy development & execution (in-year and multi-year)
- Lead research, analysis, and stakeholder delegation on behalf of the executive
- Contribute to financial planning, forecasting, budget management, and performance tracking
Operational Leadership
- Improve efficiency by identifying process improvements and embedding best practices
- Lead key projects and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives
- Prepare performance reports on KPIs, reinforcing strategic goals and external commitments
- Partner with HR to deliver talent development, succession planning, and leadership growth
Risk & Governance
- Support risk oversight, escalation, crisis management, and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Develop contingency plans to maintain business continuity
- Prepare board materials, organise executive forums, and guide governance committees
Director Expectations

- Direct a business function with strategic input (e.g., policy, projects, cross-functional collaboration).
- Manage a large team or sub-function, embedding a performance-driven culture aligned with Barclays’ values.
- Train, guide, and coach less experienced specialists in high-impact areas.

Strategic Influence
- Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees.
- Negotiate and influence at senior internal and external stakeholder levels.
- Act as spokesperson for the function and division on key regulatory or advocacy matters.
Operational & Analytical Expertise
- Design solutions using interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills.
- Exercise strategic decision-making authority on complex, sensitive, or sensitive topics.
- Maintain ecutive governance expertise while staying updated with industry best practices.
