Strategy Director (Consultant) – Clinical Development

Location: Cambridge, UK Salary: Competitive + Excellent Benefits

About the Role

Are you ready to make a difference in the world of digital health? As a member of the Digital Strategy Team within Evinova, you will partner with AstraZeneca R&D, Top 10 pharmaceutical companies, and biotechs to develop and implement AI and digital health strategies & solutions that accelerate clinical development and enhance patient outcomes.

This dynamic role combines strategy consulting and solution design, driving value realization for Evinova.

Accountabilities

  • Strategic Partnering:

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to AstraZeneca (AZ) and external organizations across clinical development, clinical operations, and medical sciences.
    • Shape digital strategies, develop operating models, and create roadmaps aligned with the development portfolio and individual assets.
  • Project Engagement:

    • Become a core member of project/engagement teams, developing and delivering digital health strategies.
    • Progress into project leading roles, taking ownership of engagement delivery.
  • Digital Health Strategy & Solutioning:

    • Define problem statements, explore solution options, evaluate vendor landscapes, and establish selection criteria for digital solutions, including:
      • Patient recruitment
      • Remote data collection and monitoring
      • ePRO/eCOA
      • Digital biomarkers
      • Patient engagement platforms
  • AI Leadership:

    • Stay current on AI trends transforming clinical development, operations, and processes.
    • Introduce pragmatic, value-led AI innovations to deliver value across portfolios.
  • Protocol Development Support:

    • Contribute to study protocol design where digital tools are used (e.g., endpoint rationale, sensor selection, sampling frequency, feasibility, burden, data flows, and risk management).
    • Ensure alignment with therapeutic area strategy and regulatory expectations.
  • Protocol Feasibility and Execution:

    • Use tools to optimize protocols with AI-driven solutions, minimizing:
      • Cost
      • Timeline
      • Environmental impact
      • Improving patient and site experience without compromising scientific quality.

  • Implementation & Evaluation:
    • Support pilots and scaled implementations of digital health technologies, including:
      • Feasibility studies
      • Validation frameworks
      • Vendor due diligence
      • Interoperability planning
      • Data governance
      • Change management

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience:

    • Proven Clinical Development background with a strong focus on digital health within healthcare (clinic development, clinical operations, or biomarker strategy).
    • Deep understanding of the role of AI in drug discovery and development.
  • Project & Stakeholder Management:

    • Exceptional project delivery and communication capabilities.
    • Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders.
  • Therapeutic Area Exposure:

    • Experience with one or more therapeutic areas, including:
      • Oncology
      • CVRM (Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolic)
      • Respiratory/Immunology
      • Infectious Diseases
      • Rare Diseases (where digital endpoints are emerging).
  • Protocol Development:

    • Hands-on involvement in clinical protocols and operational plans where digital tools inform endpoints, assessments, or data collection.
    • Project Accountability: Demonstrated significant contributions to clinical development projects, from initiation through delivery.
  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, engineering, data science, or a related field.
    • Advanced degree (MS, MPH, PhD, PharmD, MBA) preferred.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Digital Health Delivery:

    • Proven track record evaluating and implementing digital health solutions (e.g., wearable sensors, ePRO/eCOA, DHT-enabled endpoints, trial delivery capabilities, patient apps/portals).
    • Regulatory knowledge and technical fluency.
  • Expanded Therapeutic Area Exposure:

    • Experience with two or more therapeutic areas, as listed above.
  • Consulting Experience:

    • Experience delivering pharmaceutical/healthcare consulting engagements either in a management consulting firm or an internal pharmaceutical consulting function.

  • Technical Landscape Expertise:

    • Familiarity with eCOA, wearable/sensor trial design and delivery vendors.
    • Experience running RFPs (Request for Proposals) and technical due diligence.
  • Validation & Qualification:

    • Experience with analytical/clinical validation of digital measures.
    • Background in human factors engineering and usability studies.
  • Product Mindset:

    • Background in product management for digital tools/plataforms used in trials or patient support.
  • Global Programs:

    • Experience delivering multi-country studies, understanding site/patient variability and localization needs.
