Stroke Consultant Physician – Dorset County Hospital (Dorset Health Care University NHS FT)
About the Role
The Trust is the primary provider of acute care for approximately 250,000 people in the west of Dorset, based at Dorchester, near the iconic Jurassic Coast and other natural wonders. We are expanding our Stroke Team to welcome an additional Stroke Consultant, supporting the growth of Hyper Acute Stroke Care and a shared-care model between Dorset and Somerset.
This new role offers exciting opportunities to drive quality improvement, innovation, research, and integrated care development.
Our stroke department provides a seven-day service for 570 stroke patients annually (expandable to +800 following our partnership with Somerset Healthcare). The new 30-bed Hyper Acute Stroke Unit is currently under refurbishment. Additionally, Dorset County Hospital supports a 14-bed diabetes and neuro-rehabilitation unit at Yeatman Community Hospital, operated in collaboration with a Consultant Allied Health Professional (AHP).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
