Stroke Integrated Therapy Assistant
Integrated Therapy Assistant (ITA) – Acute and Continuing Stroke Care Unit
Location: Blackpool Victoria Hospital
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Integrated Therapy Assistant (ITA) to join the integrated Stroke therapy team at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
The ideal candidate will be a key member of the team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care and rehabilitation for patients admitted to the ‘Acute and Continuing Stroke Care Unit’.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support & Rehabilitation
- Work primarily in the acute and rehabilitation ward setting, supporting patients recovering from a wide range of strokes.
- Operate under the supervision of qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
- Carry out delegated therapy interventions, including:
- Monitoring and recording patient progress
- Assisting with functional assessments
- Ensuring therapy areas and equipment are prepared and maintained to a high standard
- Help facilitate patient discharge planning by contributing to Continuing Care rehabilitation.
- Support the implementation of rehabilitation programmes developed by qualified therapists, in collaboration with patients and their families.

Data & Administrative Tasks
- Contribute to data collection and patient documentation to ensure efficient service delivery.
** Wider Team & Responsibilities**
- Work within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, speech and language therapists, dietitians, orthoptists, and orthotists.
- Support the seven-day stroke service, inclusive of:
- Core hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00
- Supporting roles: Saturday and Sunday (on a rostered basis)
Additional Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a trained Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist, and within established guidelines, the ITA will be responsible for:
- Providing flexible, patient-centred interventions to aid discharge planning.
- Implementing rehabilitation programmes in line with therapist plans, with input from patients and their families.
- Progressing patients' rehabilitation to maximise independence and facilitate discharge.
- Assessing and issuing specialist equipment for activities of daily living.
- Undertaking non-clinical tasks (e.g., administrative support, equipment maintenance, slots booking) to enhance service efficiency.

Location & Daily Hours
- Base location: Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Stroke Unit.
- Standard working hours: Monday to Friday (08:00–16:00).
- Seven-day service: Saturday and Sunday on rostered shifts.

- Excellent patient-centred care and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work flexibly in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Comfort working during extended hours across the week (including selected weekends).
- Flexibility to adapt to the fast-paced stroke rehabilitation environment.
