Company Description

Balfour Engineering Consultancy is a multidisciplinary firm specialising in building projects. The consultancy also offers roads and drainage design, although the successful candidate is not required to have roads and drainage experience. Its team work on a wide variety of projects, including residential houses, commercial offices, housing developments, industrial buildings (new-build and alteration) and within the retail sector. This breadth of expertise provides opportunities for engineers to engage in diverse, complex projects and collaborate across disciplines.

Role Description

The experienced Structural Engineer will have a minimum of 4yrs post graduate experience working in a multi-disciplinary office and be used to working on numerous projects simultaneously. The role can be hybrid with 2 days working at home and the other 3 days working in our office in Paisley. The candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of building projects, working mainly autonomously, but with regular support from the Director and senior staff.   • Performing structural analysis and calculations
  • Developing safe and efficient structural solutions
  • Preparing detailed design documentation for onward transmission to CAD technicians
  • Producing and reviewing CAD drawings
  • Coordinating with other engineers
  • Liaising with architects, contractors, and clients to ensure design intent and buildability
  • Supporting project planning
  • Attending site visits
  • Participating in design reviews
  • Helping maintain compliance with relevant codes, standards, and best practices

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Structural Engineering with demonstrated experience in building projects.
  • Proficiency in Structural Analysis and engineering Calculations to ensure safe, economical, and code-compliant designs.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD is preferable although the role will not require any significant degree of drawing work (Bluebeam could be used instead).
  • MSc in Civil Engineering from a recognised University.
  • Professional accreditation or chartered/working toward chartered status is highly desirable.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant building codes, standards, and building regulations.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Salary

Depending on experience, £40,000 to £50,000 pa, although final figure can be negotiated.
