Structural Engineer

** Structural Engineer – London & Southeast Region**

Responsibilities

As a Structural Engineer at AECOM, you’ll:

  • Design & Analyse

    • Assist in the structural engineering design of complex projects.
    • Develop structural designs, calculations, and analysis models for steel/concrete frames and other infrastructure.
    • Collaborate with BIM technicians and attend design workshops with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Project Execution & Leadership

    • Work within agreed budgets and schedules, with moderate supervision.
    • Take ownership of smaller projects, managing output from design to review.
    • Provide guidance to graduate engineers as a mentor and subject matter expert.
  • Quality & Collaboration

    • Contribute to AECOM’s design review process alongside Lead Verifiers.
    • Engage professionally with clients, contractors, and external teams.
    • Ensure high technical quality and project standards are met.

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., civil engineering, structural engineering).
  • Graduate Membership with either the IStructE / Engineers Ireland or the ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers).

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Work experience in a structural consultancy or related sector.
  • Strong technical proficiency with:
    • Building engineering software (Tekla, SCIA, TEdDS or similar).
    • Steel & concrete frame designs.
    • Structural analysis tools.
  • Proven ability to:
    • Deliver cost-effective design solutions under deadlines.
    • Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, managing stakeholder relationships.
    • Present technical details clearly (written/verbal) in English.
  • Business acumen:
    • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and multi-tasking abilities.
    • Excellent interpersonal & negotiation skills.
    • Ability to prioritise workloads and respond under pressure.
  • Professional skillset:
    • Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) workflows.
    • Experience contributing to strategic carbon reduction projects.
