Structural Engineer
The Opportunity
You’re a Structural Engineer ready to take on more responsibility—leading projects, developing people, and influencing how work is delivered. At Stantec, you’ll join our Structural Engineering team in Birmingham, working on complex, high-value building projects across the UK. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with Civil, MEP, Environmental, Energy, and Water teams, giving you the opportunity to contribute to projects in a more integrated and impactful way.
About The Role
You will lead the structural design of building projects from concept through to construction, taking responsibility for technical delivery, coordination, and quality. You’ll prepare and review calculations, specifications, and technical documentation, ensuring outputs meet relevant standards and project requirements.
You’ll provide guidance to engineers and technicians, supporting delivery while maintaining consistent quality across the team. Alongside technical leadership, you’ll contribute to project management—supporting resource planning, programme, and delivery performance.
You’ll also engage with clients and stakeholders, supporting meetings, proposals, and relationship development. As your role develops, you’ll play a greater part in business development and helping to secure future work.
YOUR IMPACT
You’ll contribute to projects that shape the built environment across sectors including education, residential, healthcare, commercial, logistics, and defence. Your work will influence how buildings are designed and delivered, ensuring solutions are practical, efficient, and aligned with long-term performance requirements.
Internally, your impact will be seen in the development of people and the strength of delivery. By mentoring engineers and contributing to team capability, you’ll help build a consistent, high-performing environment while progressing your own leadership.
About You
- Degree qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent)
- Strong experience delivering building structures across multiple sectors
- Advanced design, analytical, and problem-solving capability
- Experience leading or supporting engineers and technicians
- Interested in contributing to business development and team growth

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
