At Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council we are dedicated to maintaining and developing our road network. Our team of experts ensure the safety and longevity of our road network and our highway structures across the Borough.

About the Role

Join our team as an Inspector in our Highway Structures Department. Are you passionate about engineering and infrastructure? Do you have an eye for detail and a knack for problem-solving? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you! This is your chance to join Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. Your role will help contribute to creating a resilient and well-maintained highway network working within our highway structures and assets team. You will form a key part of our Highway Assets team. As an Inspector for our highway structures department, you will be responsible for undertaking inspections and producing inspection reports, surveys, and investigations on various bridges, walls and other highway structures.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect highway structures
  • Identify issues and defects
  • Document findings and keep accurate records
  • Ensure compliance with current codes of practice
  • Collaborate with the team on repair works
  • Supervise minor maintenance works and site activities

The role will also involve outdoor and lone working. You will be required to effectively manage your own time to deliver inspections.

Qualifications

  • Level 2, 3, i.e. A-Level or BTEC in Civil/Structural engineering or similar, relevant qualification.
  • Previous experience in bridge or structure inspections.

Required Skills

  • A keen eye for spotting defects and issues
  • Strong self-organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and report writing / record keeping abilities
  • A commitment to safety and quality
