Structural Surveyor

Experience With Aviation Projects Required

About the Role

Socotec is seeking an experienced Structural Surveyor to join our team supporting critical infrastructure projects which initially has a focus on Gatwick Airport, but the role will broaden. This role requires a qualified structural engineer with experience in aviation and airport environments, capable of conducting technical surveys, assessments, and inspections of airport structures whilst ensuring compliance with stringent aviation safety standards. The ideal candidate will also have experience in the field of Technical Due Diligence and capable of assessing the fabric of existing buildings and advising on its condition and state of repair. The role requires the ability to undertake structural verification checks, based on the information gathered through desk top study and the site survey. The candidate would be required to scope intrusive surveys that would be carried out by the intrusive survey team.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct structural surveys and condition assessments of airport infrastructure including terminals, hangars, apron structures, tunnels, and ancillary buildings (however this will broaden into not airport projects over time)
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, including defect analysis, remedial recommendations, and compliance assessments
  • Review and assess structural drawings, specifications, and design calculations for aviation projects
  • Undertake structural inspections during construction, refurbishment, and maintenance works
  • Provide technical advisory services to project teams and airport stakeholders
  • Ensure all survey work complies with current regulations, CDM requirements, and relevant British European Standards
  • Liaise with airport operations teams to coordinate access and ensure minimal disruption to airport activities
  • Support due diligence assessments and asset integrity reviews for airport infrastructure
  • Assist in the preparation of feasibility studies and options appraisals for structural modifications
  • Prepare survey scoping documents for the intrusive survey team to conduct their surveys, be in attendance on occasion during the intrusive survey work to clarify scope items

Qualifications

Essential:

  • BEng/MEng degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Has or is not barred from obtaining Airside Pass – requires background security check

Desirable

  • RICS-accredited degree in a relevant subject such as surveying, construction, civil engineering, or building engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), or demonstrable progress towards chartership
  • Member of IStructE, ICE, or equivalent professional institution
  • MSc in Structural Engineering or related discipline
  • CSCS card or equivalent site safety certification
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification
