Structural Welders – Onsite (Remaining Open)
Location: Barrow, Cumbria – Onsite – Shifts – 3 on, 4 off
We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please discuss options with your recruiter.
Salary: £38,661+ Shift Allowance (20%)
About the Role
As a Structural Welder with BAE Systems, you’ll help deliver cutting-edge defence and aerospace solutions that protect what matters.
Join us to work on groundbreaking programmes like Astute and Dreadnought, welding critical components across Flux Core and mechanised processes. You’ll contribute to projects that shape the future of submarine technology while sustaining high safety, quality, and operational standards.
This role demands a commitment to SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) best practices, including working in confined spaces and at heights. Excellence in welding and adherence to safety protocols ensure our products are built to the highest standards.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all Safety Health and Environment (SHE) regulations.
- Operate only machinery and equipment for which you are trained and competent.
- Maintain and exceed targets for project timelines while upholding safety and quality standards across every weld.
- Foster teamwork and maintain positive relations with peers and stakeholders.
- Ensure full accountability—your work must meet requirements safely and efficiently.
- Proactively identify and address safety concerns, lodging verbal or written reports as necessary.
- Deliver precision welds in Flux Core (and other processes) across complex materials.

Essential Requirements
- Completion of a full Modern Apprenticeship in welding or a related discipline.
- Experienced in Flux Core Welding; familiarity with additional welding types such as:
- Alignment and forming of materials.
- Mechanised welding processes.
- Self-motivated with a demonstrated track record of adherence to quality and safety protocols.
- SHE certifications desirable (e.g., SHE induction, COSHH awareness, working at height).

The Operations Team builds potential world-first submarines from the ground up through streamlined processes. Your welds will be integral to systems on Astute and Dreadnought—where precision is not an option. Every action reflects on the team ethos:
