A prestigious opportunity has arisen for a Structured Notes Lawyer at Vice President level to join the highly respected Legal Department of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) in London. What You'll Do
- Provide comprehensive legal advice, review, draft, and negotiate documentation for structured notes across a wide spectrum of products and underlying asset classes.
- Advise on the structuring and establishment of new and complex products as well as innovative business initiatives within the structured notes space.
- Engage directly with clients during negotiations and assist business units in explaining intricate product features in an accessible manner.
- Offer strategic guidance on legal, regulatory, reputational, and documentation matters related to structured notes transactions.
- Analyse third-party distribution into multiple jurisdictions while managing associated legal and regulatory risks effectively.
- Deliver training sessions on legal and regulatory issues to employees across the Firm, enhancing overall compliance awareness.
- Participate actively in working groups and committees to contribute your expertise towards firm-wide projects and policy development.
- Efficiently manage external law firm engagements and monitor legal spend to ensure cost-effective service delivery.
- Support both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc on an entity-neutral basis, maintaining integrity across all responsibilities.
- Identify potential conflicts of interest between entities promptly and escalate them appropriately to ensure robust governance.

What You Bring
- 5-7 years’ post-qualification experience gained either in private practice at a major law firm or in-house at a significant financial institution is essential for this position.
- A university degree in law coupled with strong technical understanding of structured notes transactions is required.
- Demonstrated commercial awareness regarding current market trends and regulatory developments affecting structured products is highly valued.
- Proven ability to build effective stakeholder relationships quickly through excellent interpersonal skills is necessary.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are vital for explaining complex legal concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Experience supporting new or developing business lines with a flexible mindset suited to navigating uncertainty is advantageous.
- A collaborative approach with proven success operating within team-oriented or matrix environments is important.
- A proactive attitude combined with enthusiasm for driving positive change within an organisation is expected.
- International outlook with sensitivity towards cultural differences enhances your suitability for this global role.
