Student Conduct and Complaints Officer

Department: Academic Standards & Quality

Location: London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham Contract Type: Permanent / Full Time (40 hours) Salary: £35,500 – £37,750

The Role

The ** purpose** of this role is to manage student misconduct and student complaints across campuses and partnerships, ensuring a consistent, timely, and fair response.

  • Responsible for maintaining equity in assessment, investigations, and the imposition of sanctions across all GBS Student Code of Conduct and GBS Student Complaints Procedure breaches, as well as other relevant policies.
  • Central to upholding the shared values and ideals of the GBS community.

⚠️ Note: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations into alleged breaches of student discipline and violations of relevant policies, ensuring all cases comply fully.
  • Manage caseloads, including:
    • Conducting interviews with students and witnesses.
    • Taking statements and evidence.
    • Handling a wide range of disciplinary matters.
  • Collaborate with the Police on cases involving criminal charges.
  • Produce factual case reports with recommendations, presenting evidence-based arguments for proposed actions.
  • Generate monthly and annual reports on:
    • Caseload statistics (number/outcomes/types).
    • Systemic issues and preventative action proposals.
  • Support senior colleagues in project development as required.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualifications/qualifying experience:
    • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Workplace skills:
    • Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced institution.
    • Strong record-keeping and project management competencies.
    • Proven ability to proactively address student welfare concerns.
  • Experience collaborating with professionals, including lecturers, support staff, tutors, and colleagues in academic standards.
  • Experience handling sensitive, confidential, and high-level matters.
  • Working knowledge of employment legislation relating to:
    • Discrimination.
    • Sexual harassment.
    • Cross-cultural issues.
  • Engagement with widening participation student groups.
