As a GIS Placement Student, you'll support real-world projects across the entire business. Your work will involve hands-on experience contributing to GIS operations whilst working alongside experienced GIS professionals. Your role will help to develop and maintain digital mapping capabilities crucial for estate management processes such as:
- Grounds maintenance
- Snow & ice clearance
- Forestry management planning
- Environmental compliance
- Range management applications supporting military safe systems
Working Conditions
- Hours: 37 per week (Hybrid model: 2–3 days at the office)
- Contract Duration: 12-month fixed-term placement
- Location: Westdown Camp, Tilshead, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP3 4RX
- Nearest Travel Connection: Salisbury Train Station (Wiltshire, SP2 7RS)
- Travel Requirement: Limited UK travel depending on project needs

Responsibilities
- Assisting the GIS team in maintaining accurate digital records in the GIS enterprise system, ensuring they link effectively with other corporate databases
- Producing maps, reports, and GIS outputs—ensuring clarity, reliability, and up-to-date accuracy
- Collaborating with operational teams to support shared objectives and deliver effective geospatial solutions
- Suggesting ideas and contributing to the development of GIS tools, processes, and capabilities
- Undertaking occasional UK site travel as deemed necessary for project needs
Requirements
ideal candidate will have:
- Background or academic experience in GIS, demonstrating geospatial awareness
- Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to tasks
- Excellent attention to detail
- Self-motivated, driven, and eager to learn new skills
- Confident communicator with strong written and verbal interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both collaboratively in a team and independently
- Desirable: Proficient in Esri ArcGIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online)
- Fluent in using Microsoft Office applications
- Access to own transport (due to rural location of the site)

About Landmarc
Landmarc is a Special Purpose Vehicle sole-contracted by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) as their Industry Partner on the UK Defence Training Estate (DTE). Since 2003, Landmarc has been the sole organisation wholly dedicated to delivering support services for Operation of the DTE, including:
- Maintaining infrastructure for safe and sustainable training
- Managing and operating training areas and firing ranges
- Delivering high-value projects to improve frontline training assets
