Position
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit highly motivated nurses to undertake a Postgraduate diploma in Health Visiting.
All applicants must be a 1 level registered nurse (or midwife) currently on the NMC Register. Applicants must also possess a first degree, have excellent communication skills, the academic study commitment and ability to be flexible and work within a large team.
Successful candidates will be supported to attend the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Health Visiting course at Glasgow Caledonian University on a full time one year basis which commences September 2026. Candidates will be employed on a 28.8 hours/week basis with NHS Ayrshire and Arran. Annex 21 conditions will apply.
During this period successful candidates will be employed as Health Visitor Students, it is important to note that as a full time student attendance at university and all holidays will be set by the University, Practice placements will be arranged in various locations across East Ayrshire Universal Early Years’ Service with Health Visitor Practice Assessor and Supervisor.
There will also be an expectation upon successful completion of the course and qualification as a Health Visitor, candidates will take up employment in East Ayrshire on a 28.8 or 36 hour Health Visitor post, base location to be identified.
Competitive entry requirements will include the need for a written assignment which will be submitted to Katie McLaughlin at GCU and attend an interview panel. Due to the short time frames we have, students need to be able to commence the programme by 14 Sept 26.

Please see below the attached enhanced CV requirements by GCU. Candidates will be initially shortlisted by the Health Board panel and successful offer of the post will also be dependent on successful scrutiny by GCU lead via a 150-200 word personal statement and a 500-word reflection on candidates own field of practice. Candidates need to ensure this is based on:
- Knowledge, understanding and skills in identifying and analysing complex problems and issues.
- Written and oral communication within field of practice.
- Identify and address personal learning needs as part of Continuous Personal Development.
- The application of research and evidence-based practice.
Your responses should be written in an academic style and supported by references to the underpinning evidence and literature which has informed them.
Hours
28.8 hours, days to be agreed (between Monday-Friday)

UK Driving Licence
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential to this role.
What You Will Do
You will work in partnership with local children and their families, alongside colleagues in NHS and partner services to enable children to have the best possible start in life and reach their optimum health outcomes. The successful applicant will work with an excellent team of Health Visitors and other Early Years staff to provide a service directed by the Universal Health Visiting Pathway.
