About The Role

As an integral part of the Student Services team, the Student Money Adviser will be responsible for providing a professional, accurate, effective, and efficient student money advice service to all students, student representatives, and staff on all areas of student funding. You will be supporting students in accessing the various funding streams that may be available to support their studies, as well as assessing applications for financial support.

Part of the role will be to educate students on financial awareness, which includes outreach and creating content to deliver to students.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in a public-facing role, providing advice and guidance in a regulated environment. With excellent interpersonal and numeracy skills, a knowledge of student finance would be an advantage but not essential. Student Services work as a team and have to deal with some complex and challenging circumstances, so the ability to be flexible in approach and to remain calm under pressure are important attributes.

We are committed to providing a safe environment for all students and staff. This position is required to undertake regulated activity and therefore is subject to a satisfactory DBS Disclosure. Further information on BU's safeguarding policies on safeguarding vulnerable groups can be found online.

For an informal discussion, please contact Paul London, Student Money Advice Team Leader at paul.london@bournemouth.ac.uk.

This position does not meet the eligibility requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route within the UK Visa and Immigration service's Points Based System. Therefore, BU will not be able to sponsor individuals who require permission to work to carry out this position. For more information, please visit https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa/your-job.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
