Student Opportunities Coordinator

De Montfort Students' Union are looking for a Student Opportunities Coordinator to join their Opportunities Team which is part of our Membership Department.

Working closely with De Montfort University Students, our Student Opportunities Coordinators empower students to enhance their university experiences and personal development, through Student Groups and voluntary opportunities.

The Student Opportunities Coordinator works under the direction of the Student Opportunities Manager, to create, develop and deliver opportunities for student groups and students to enhance their experiences and employability on and off campus.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide tailored support to develop existing student groups.
• Administer, develop, and review processes and procedures relating to the effective running of student groups.
• Administer, develop, and review processes and procedures relating to the creation of new student groups.
• Ensure all opportunities adhere to health and safety requirements and have suitable Risk Assessments in place.
• Support the organisation and delivery of key events during the year, including Welcome, annual celebration events and other Membership Services collaborative events as directed by the Student Opportunities Manager.
• Keep accurate records of student participation and maintain a database, using the appropriate in-house systems.
• Evaluate student opportunities through the appropriate methods and generate reports on the outcomes, as directed by the Student Opportunities Manager.
• Administer allocated funds for student groups and identify avenues of additional funding for student groups as needed.
• Ensure students adhere to legal requirements and governing documents and report any issues or breaches to the Student Opportunities Manager.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of activities and communications that students are engaging in and report any concerns to DSU’s Safeguarding Officer and/or other appropriate person(s) and liaise with these groups to address any issues.
• Research guest speakers, organisations and associations proposed by student groups, and determine if they need to be referred to the Student Opportunities Manager for further research before approval.
• Support student volunteers and Student Opportunities colleagues with their projects and encourage students to participate where applicable.
• Lead on team projects, with the support of the Student Opportunities Manager.
• To take a lead role in the delivery of key projects and activity such as Welcome Fair, Awards, Committee Training, Volunteering, Student Group Elections and Give it a Go.
• Ensure that all aspects of a project are organised and in conformance with timeline and deliverable requirements.
• To collaboratively work with all functions within the Membership Services department and the rest of the Union.
• To collaboratively work alongside colleagues in the Membership Services department to deliver a front-of-house service for DMU students.
• To collaboratively work with the relevant University departments and external organisations.
• To cover the duties of the Student Opportunities functions in the absence of other personnel.
• Any other associated or similar duties that may be necessary from time to time as determined by your Line Manager, a member of Senior Management or the Chief Executive Officer.
