Location: Sunderland Salary: £25,949 per annum (pro rata) Post Type: Part-Time Hours per Week: 18.5 Contract Type: Permanent Closing Date: 23:59 BST on Friday 07 August 2026 Reference: 0452-26

About the Candidate

Ideal applicants will:

  • Hold a Level 3+ qualification
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for working with adult learners in group and 1:1 settings
  • Experience in pastoral roles, skill development, or academic support

About the Role

As a Student Progression & Wellbeing Coach in the Access to HE team, you’ll guide adult learners (Level 2/3 students) through the next steps of their educational and career journey. Collaborating with curriculum teams and wider college services, you’ll catalyse student success by:

  • Advocating academic growth, skill-building, and personal development
  • Supporting transition to higher education (HE), apprenticeships, or employment
  • Strengthening welfare, attendance, and achievement amongst learners

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive, encouraging support to students, detailing their journey from education to future opportunities.
  • Partner with stakeholders to design workplace/support workshops, aligning with curriculum goals.
  • UCAS guidance – Offer guidance in crafting personal statements.
  • Track student progress via ProMonitor (academic targets, ILPs, and pathways).

Qualifications

  • Academic: Level 3 qualification or above
  • Minimum qualifications: Maths and English at Level 2

  • Experience: Working with adults/young people, supporting wellbeing, and promoting HE progression.
  • Communication: Warm, empathetic engagement for interpersonal support and conflict resolution.
  • Leadership: Ability to motivate learners, set clear targets, and maintain rigour inג.
  • Legal compliance: Safeguarding children/vulnerable adults, upholding British Values, and Equality & Diversity safeguards.

Desirable Skills

  • Coaching/mentoring qualifications (or eagerness to obtain).
  • Post-16/Adult Education context: Working within FE or career progression roles.
  • Learner tracking: Proficency with student assessment tools/progress systems.
