Specialist Practitioner Qualification (SPQ) Programme: Health and Justice

Start Date: September 2026, City St Georges University London

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses to apply for the General Practice Specialist Practitioner Qualification (SPQ) programme. This is a 2-year, part-time course designed to support nurses in advancing their clinical expertise, leadership skills, and professional development within their area of practice.

This programme is only open to internal candidates: Registered Nurses currently working clinically in CNWL NHS Trust Health and Justice Services

About The Programme

The SPQ is a Level 7 MSc/PGDip in Public Health and Specialist Community Nursing, providing both academic and practical learning opportunities.

On successful completion, the qualification is recordable with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), supporting career progression within specialist practice roles.

Main duties of the job

What You Will Study

Example modules include:

  • Introduction to Research Methods
  • Advanced Clinical Assessment and Decision Making (across acute, primary care and mental health settings)
  • Long-term Conditions Management
  • Leadership, Management and Innovation in Health and Social Care
  • Independent and Supplementary Non-Medical Prescribing (V300)

You will also benefit from bespoke masterclasses, such as:

  • National immunisation programmes (including anaphylaxis recognition and management)
  • Cervical cytology
  • Mental health

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must:

  • Hold a minimum 2:2 honours degree in a relevant subject, or demonstrate equivalent level study (Level 7) completed within the last five years
  • Be a registered nurse with the NMC
  • Have at least 1 year of post-registration experience
  • Provide evidence of a current and satisfactory DBS check
  • Demonstrate the ability to practise safely and effectively at the required level for a specialist community nursing qualification
