Student Support Officer
Head of Student Support – Reporting to the Registrar/Dean
About the Role
This is a critical opportunity for a senior leader to provide strategic and operational leadership across all non-academic student services at LAAT (a forward-thinking applied technology college).
The Head of Student Support will oversee a comprehensive function, covering:
- Student admissions & enrolment
- Administration & student records
- IT & digital access
- Learning support
- Wellbeing & student finance
- Careers & employability
- Outreach & partnerships
A unique role to build and drive a fully integrated Student Support department—spanning the entire student journey, from first enquiry to graduation and beyond.
What You Will Do
Student Services Leadership
- Lead and manage all non-academic student support services, aligning them around a student-first philosophy.
- Oversee the full student lifecycle—from enquiries and admissions, through enrolment, and post-graduation support/progression.
- Set service standards, escalation protocols, and quality benchmarks across all student-facing teams.
Student Finance & SLC Expertise
- Become LAAT’s expert on Student Loan Company (SLC) processes, policies, and funding eligibility.
- Provide expert guidance to students on:
- Completing SLC applications
- Managing documentation and payment disputes
- Serve as the primary liaison between LAAT and the SLC, including:
- Case management and resolution
- Funding status monitoring
- Deliver workshops and sessions on student finance while ensuring full GDPR and data protection compliance.

Admissions, Enrolment & Administrative Compliance
- Oversee admissions, enrolment, and registration processes, in line with:
- Institution policies
- Partner university requirements
- Ensure accurate student data management, records compliance, and strict adherence to regulatory standards.
Student Wellbeing, Learning Support & Digital Access
- Lead wellbeing and pastoral care systems, acting as the go-to escalation point for student welfare issues.
- Coordinate inclusive learning support, including:
- Reasonable adjustments
- Access to Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSAs)
- Guarantee all students have reliable access to digital systems, including:
- Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
- Email platforms
- Assessment tools
Careers, Employability & Outreach Initiatives
- Establish and lead LAAT’s Careers & Employability Service, including:
- Workshop programmes
- Employer engagement and networking events
- Individualised career planning support
- Drive outreach and partnership activities to:
- Enhance widening participation
- Fuel institutional growth
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure student services remain fully compliant with Office for Students (OfS) regulatory requirements.
- Support all aspects of:
- Student complaints and appeals
- Conduct procedures
- Institutional monitoring and reporting.

Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) plus 3–5 years’ experience in:
- Student services / student-facing operations in higher/further education
- Operational team management (preferably in HE/FE)
- Specialist knowledge of:
- Student Loan Company (SLC) processes, policies, and funding eligibility
- The student lifecycle (prospect → graduate support)
- Inclusive education (adjustments, DSA, accessibility)
- Data protection and confidentiality (GDPR/UK HE regulations)
- Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills—with an empathetic approach to sensitive/complex cases.
Desirable
- Experience in private higher education providers or franchised university partnerships.
- Working knowledge of Office for Students (OfS) expectations and current regulatory trends.
- Prior involvement with:
- Outreach initiatives
- Employer engagement programmes
- Widening participation strategies.
