Job Opportunity

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Student Veterinary Nurse to join our team at our Ware Hospital. Our hospital is a busy, well-equipped site within Walton Lodge Vets, supported by a dedicated night nurse and a full day team committed to delivering excellent patient care.

Training and Development

This is a fantastic opportunity to train in a hospital environment, gaining hands-on experience with a varied and interesting caseload. You’ll work closely with experienced vets and nurses who are passionate about teaching and supporting student development, helping you build confidence and clinical skills throughout your training.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Student Veterinary Nurse, you will be supported and encouraged to develop both your clinical and non-clinical skills while working towards qualification as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

You’ll be an integral part of the practice team, supporting patient care under the guidance of Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses. You’ll gain hands-on experience across a range of nursing duties while progressing through your training programme and developing confidence in your day-to-day practice.

Working Pattern

  • Four 8-hour working days each week
  • One day per week at college
  • 1 in 6 Saturday mornings

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with handling animals during examinations and procedures
  • Care for hospitalised patients, including feeding, grooming and administering medications appropriate to your training level
  • Help collect and process blood and other laboratory samples
  • Assist with preparing animals for surgery and monitoring anaesthesia, appropriate to your training level
  • Clean, sterilise and prepare surgical instruments
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout clinical areas
  • Support the reception team as required

  • Enrolment on, or the intention to enrol on, a recognised Student Veterinary Nurse training programme

  • A compassionate approach to patient and client care
  • Previous veterinary experience would be advantageous
