Student Welfare Officer
Fixed Term Attendance/Welfare Officer (16+)
Fixed term contract: September 2026 – July 2027 Hours: Term time only (40 weeks)
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Attendance/Welfare Officer to support students aged 16+, with a particular focus on those who are vulnerable or hard-to-engage. Based at Nescot College – Ewell, this role is essential to ensuring all students thrive academically and personally within a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- ** identific ** and proactively support students whose attendance, wellbeing, safeguarding concerns, or personal circumstances hinder their engagement with learning.
- ** Collaborate closely** with curriculum teams, Student Experience staff, parents/carers, and external professionals (e.g., social workers, healthcare teams) to address challenges holistically.
- ** Monitor attendance** rigorously and implement targeted interventions, including:
- Conducting safeguarding welfare checks.
- Undertaking home visits where necessary to assess needs.
- Developing and delivering bespoke support plans.
- ** Maintain accurate records**, including any safeguarding concerns or花ttenance interventions, ensuring compliance with legislation and college policies.
- ** Write concise reports** for internal stakeholders, external agencies, and when required by regulatory bodies.

Person Specification

Essential:
- Proven experience working with young people aged 16 and over, including those from vulnerable or challenging backgrounds.
- Familiarity with attendance monitoring, pastoral care, safeguarding, or similar roles in educational settings.
- A strong working knowledge of safeguarding laws (UK), including child protection procedures.
- Confidence building positive, professional relationships with diverse student populations, families, and colleagues.
- Administrative experience ensuring ** accurate record-keeping** and record management (e.g., achievement tracking).
- Driving licence for home visits and community-based welfare duties (access to personal vehicle required).

Desired:
- Qualifications or training in counselling, social work, mental health support, or youthwork.
- Experience engaging with multicultural or SEND [Special Educational Needs and Disabilities] communities.
- Skills in early intervention strategies for student withdrawal or disengagement.
