Please note, this is a 40 week term-time only position.
We are seeking a passionate and creative individual to deliver an engaging and inclusive extra-curricular sports and activities programme for students across the College. Working with Students' Union representatives, college staff and external partners, the post holder will support the delivery of high-quality, student-led enrichment opportunities that enhance the student experience, promote wellbeing and encourage active participation.
The role will involve developing and coordinating a range of sports, recreational and enrichment activities, supporting student clubs and teams, and ensuring students are at the heart of planning and delivery. The post holder will also promote participation across diverse student groups, build effective partnerships with external organisations, and contribute to the evaluation of activities and events through regular student feedback to continuously improve the quality and impact of provision.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute fully to the mission, values and strategic objectives of the College, ensuring their effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
- Support the Students' Union in developing, coordinating and delivering an exciting, inclusive and innovative programme of extra-curricular sports, recreational and enrichment activities.
- Plan, organise and deliver high-quality sports and activity sessions across all College sites, adapting provision to meet the needs and interests of individual students and groups.
- Promote student participation and engagement in sports, enrichment activities, clubs, societies and wider Students' Union initiatives.
- Ensure that students are at the heart of all activities by supporting student-led planning, delivery and evaluation of programmes and events.
- Review and evaluate sports and enrichment activities, gathering and analysing student feedback to measure impact and identify areas for improvement.
- Supervise gym and fitness sessions independently, ensuring safe and effective use of equipment and facilities.
- Support the delivery of Students' Union, student engagement, enrichment events, campaigns, competitions, trips and residential activities.
- Complete all relevant Health and Safety documentation, including PAR-Q forms, risk assessments and activity records, in line with College policies and procedures.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting professionalism, respect, inclusion and active participation amongst students.
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Work to the highest legal, ethical and professional standards, particularly in relation to safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion and health and safety requirements.
- Transport students to and from training sessions, competitions, events and enrichment activities where required and authorised.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with external organisations, community groups and sports providers to enhance opportunities and progression pathways for students.
- Contribute to the development of funding bids and funding applications to support sports, enrichment and student engagement initiatives.
- Create purposeful, motivating and inclusive environments where students feel safe, supported, confident and valued.
- Establish and maintain clear expectations with students that promote positive behaviour, effective communication, respect for others and challenge discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
- Continuously evaluate and improve communication skills to maximise effectiveness and overcome barriers to engagement.
- Complete all administrative tasks associated with the role, including registers, participation records, monitoring reports and evaluation documentation.
- Monitor participation data and contribute to reporting on programme outcomes, student engagement and impact measures.
- Review personal professional development needs and actively participate in training and development opportunities.
- Communicate and consult effectively with students, parents/carers and stakeholders through events such as Parents' Evenings, Welcome Events, Open Days and enrichment showcases.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the diverse needs of students and implement effective strategies to ensure equality of access, participation and achievement for all learners.

- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring all students are treated fairly and with respect.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post as reasonably required by the line manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria:
- Educated to Level 3 Sports Coaching qualification (or equivalent).
- Educated to Level 2 Gym Instructing qualification (or equivalent).
- Experience of planning, coordinating and delivering sports, fitness and extracurricular activities for young people.
- Experience of working with students or young people in an educational, sports, youth work or community setting.
- Ability to deliver engaging, inclusive and student-centred sports and enrichment programmes.
- Ability to motivate, inspire and support students to participate in sports, physical activity and wider enrichment opportunities.
- Experience of organising and supporting sports events, competitions, trips and enrichment activities.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements, including risk assessments and safe working practices within sports and activity environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and external partners.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently using initiative.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to set high expectations for students, colleagues and personal performance.
- Understanding of the importance of student feedback and its role in improving participation and outcomes.
- Experience of using ICT systems to monitor participation, record engagement and evaluate programme impact.
- Experience of monitoring and evaluating student participation, progress and engagement.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive College minibuses (subject to relevant training and approval).
- First Aid at Work qualification, or willingness to obtain.
- Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and digital communication platforms.
- Minimum Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent), or willingness to achieve.
- Commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
- Ability to work regular evenings and occasional weekends to support activities, events and competitions.
- Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion and their application within student activities and sport.

Desirable Criteria:
- Level 3 qualification in Sports Development, Sport and Exercise Science, Physical Education, Coaching, Youth Work or a related subject.
- Experience of supporting Students' Union activities, clubs and societies.
- Experience of working with external sports organisations, community groups and governing bodies.
- Experience of coordinating volunteering opportunities, leadership programmes or student ambassador schemes.
- Experience of writing funding applications or contributing to sports development initiatives.
- Experience of using social media or promotional campaigns to increase student participation.
- Knowledge of current sport, health, wellbeing and student engagement initiatives within further education.
- Experience of working across multiple sites and delivering a diverse enrichment programme.
- Membership of a relevant professional body.
